A prayer for a safe journey

Lord, my husband, Lordly is going on a long trip to the US in order to meet his company’s demand for additional work force in their main branch located at Scottsdale, Arizona. This is going to be his first time to be away and his farthest trip from home. Although, Mama Merla, Al and his Ate May are in the US to help him once he gets there, worrying about how he will be during the trip is not something that can be ignored. But in your arms Oh Lord, I put my trust for husband’s safety journey. May he be able to get through difficult sleeping time in the plane and confusing routes and signs in the airport and successfully get to his destination without cuts and bruises. Keep him alert, quick-minded and guided all the time. Let him watch over his belongings and not lose any important documents. Cover him with your shield from all forms of fraud and robbery and accidents in his long journey. Always bless and protect him. This I ask from my Lord GOD Jesus Christ and the intercession of the Holy Spirit and Mother Mary. Amen.

What is Love?

I was searching the website for love quotes when I come across this definition of love. It matches that which I believe is true love for me. The idea of love comes from a novel Corelli’s Mandolin written by Louis de Bernières which takes place on the island of Cephallonia (Kefalonia) during the Italian and German occupation of World War II, according to Wikipedia.

Today is the 23rd. A celebration for me and my husband’s love. I dedicate this message to him.

For me, LOVE is a gift from GOD that is blessed to each and everyone of us when we acquired life the very moment we were formed in our mother’s womb. It is like an imaginary string that serves as a bond connecting one person to another. That is the reason why I believe in soulmates. Our duty to fulfill and find this LOVE is to let our natural feelings of respect for one’s self and value in life to guide us. It is when we immaturely declare desire, lust, and want as LOVE that we get lost and lose our chance of finding that ONE TRUE LOVE. It is then that we mess up the original and holy bonds or connections that were set up by GOD and we resort to divorce or separation and then start looking for another making us confuse about what we truly deserve. Having a boyfriend or girlfriend is just one step to discovering who your LOVE is. When I say this, I meant it is okay to break up and may be somewhere along after that you will be able to find that ONE person. But doing the act of LOVE prematurely before GOD’s blessing is another story. This is my own definition of LOVE…

Sudden Change…

Previously on My Treasure Basket’s - Keeping Cedric Safe, I talked about Cedric getting these 2 vaccines. Well, he just did. He just got immunized with 2 vaccines: Infanrix Hexa and IPD. Infanrix Hexa is a vaccine used to prevent six diseases: diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, poliomyelitis and Haemophilus influenzae type b. The other one is IPD (Invasive Pneumococcal Disease) which will protect Cedric against pneumonia and most of all meningitis. These were injected all in one session. After that, Cedric was already getting higher than his normal temperature varying from 37.1 to 37.4. It is not that high though to call it fever but I was already worried. Second, he will only sleep for 10 to 15 minutes and then wakes up again. I think he also have a problem in digestion because he always regurgitate more than what he usually does. Worst of all, he cries hard almost every 2 or 3 minutes when since birth he only cries when his hungry. For me, I can count this as one of the most difficult times of me being a mother watching my baby cry and not understanding what it is making him uncomfortable and not knowing what to do to ease him after I have tried everything to make him secure. I guess during these times, the only thing I can do is to always be attentive to the changes of his body and his needs and most of all pray and trust in the Lord that these sudden changes are just effects of a normal body reaction to forming a whole new strong immune system.

Kinilaw!

One of my husband’s childhood stories that he had shared with me is the luxury of eating delicious foods. I too have the same experience. When you were a child, small things are a big deal for you. I remember when I was a child my mother does not allow me to drink soda. I was not aware at that time that it was not good for my health. I also notice that we only get to buy soda when we have visitors or when it is a special occassion. Back then, I used to tell myself that when I grow up I am going to buy Coca Cola. I going to satisfy myself with it when I already have my own job and I can already afford to buy it. Thinking about it makes me feel motivated. These are small things but it makes children happy. I believe that even until now, buying and drinking coke still makes me remember how I was as a child and it still satisfies me.

One day, I went to a mall nearby after my shift. I was wondering what I would prepare for dinner. Then when I went to the fresh section of Elizabeth Mall’s grocery shop, I saw “Tanguige”. It is one of the most expensive fish in our place. According to the salesgirl, it is good for “Kinilaw”. I remembered a recipe that was shared to me by a co-team leader at work, TL Michy. So I decided to buy 2 big slices of the meat. Then I bought white onions, tomatoes, cucumber, mayonnaise (alternative for coconut milk), ginger, vinegar, calamansi, salt and pepper. When I got home, I started right away to prepare the recipe. First, I cut the meat into cubes and soaked them in vinegar. Then I minced all the ingredients and mix them all up together with the meat. My husband was so happy when he learned I made “Kinilaw”. He told me that when he was a little child, he always thinks that only those who are rich can afford to make a yummy “Kinilaw”. I was very happy I made his day. Thanks to TL Michy for the recipe.

A Romantic Dinner

February 14, Happy Heart’s Day! Although it seems like an ordinary occassion considering that this happens every year, it has always been a special day especially with those who are in love. To celebrate this wonderful day, me and my husband attended mass first. We were too early for the mass so we had to wait. My husband excused himself for nature’s call but to my surprise he brought me a bouquet. Then after saying our prayers, we proceeded to Ayala Center, Cebu City. There we had to go around and check which restaurant would be both not too crowded and offers real good food for a romantic dinner for two. We decided it’s Moon Cafe, a Mexican inspired restaurant where we both enjoyed a delicious meal. We ended the day with love and kisses.

Me and my husband got married December 30, 2008. The 2 lucky people who got the garter and the bouquet were BJ and Sandie.

Last December 28, 2009, Sandie joined hands with Kerwyn and vowed to be in love forever.

Then, on January 30, 2010, BJ vowed to be one body and one soul with Warlie.

Well, isn’t that a coincidence?

With this realization, I felt that me and my husband’s wedding day was full of blessings. I just pray that we will be able to survive the hardships in life as we learn everyday being with the ones we love. Good luck and GOD bless to all of us!

Church bell rings again!

Amazing! I have attended another wedding again! This time it is my cousin’s wedding, BJ. We had to go to Moalboal for the celebration. This couple new each other as classmates in high school. However, that time they had their own separate lives and relationships. But you can never tell when two roads meet again. The mass was celebrated at San Juan Nepumoceno Parish in Moalboal. There were a lot of visitors including friends and relatives from the states. I was the master of ceremonies. And although this was my second time, I still really find it hard especially that I was just informed like 2 hours before the wedding. It was a rather very challenging experience. My husband was very busy taking photos and videos. I knew he also had a good time. The wedding started and ended really well with almost all the “Ninongs and Ninangs’” words of wisdom for the couple. One of the words of wisdom that I learned about marriage during that day were the ones uttered by the priest.

“When you join hands in marriage, you forget about being a single individual.”
“When you vow for love in marriage, you also vow that your body and soul is not yours alone.”
“When you consecrate love and yourself in marriage, you promise to teach the teachings and prayers of GOD to your children.”

For BJ and Warlie, I hope that you will be able to uphold these messages and pray that GOD will provide you with all you need in life as you live life together as one body and one soul.

First Wedding Anniversary!

Today is our first wedding anniversary! We started the celebration wit a thanksgiving by attending the mass. After that we went to Ricky Reyes Salon in SM for a make over! Then we looked for a place to celebrate the occassion with a healthy food. We found ourselves in Lamesa Grill. One of the restaurants located in the west wing of SM. Its interior is native inspired with bamboo design. They serve native food as well. Since I do not have really the appetite to eat due to a change in the sensitivity of my smelling senses I had to order “Pinakbet” without the “Bagoong” and my husband chose “Tinolang Bangus”. It was a healthy way of celebrating a year of staying together, one body, one soul. I am now 4 months pregnant with our first baby. I am very happy looking back at how we got to know each other, the sacrifices we had to go through before we decided to tie the knot and now, a year together with a promising future ahead. I am not scared but I am ready to face the challenges because I know GOD will be there with us!

Sister’s-in-Law Wedding!

Sandie has found her one true love and me and my husband are both happy for her. The wedding was celebrated at Guadalupe Parish. Since her husband is a soldier then there would be times when they will not be together. This is a big challenge for married people. However, this also will let each of them realize how important and precious their time would be. This would even make them more drawn to each because of the long time that they will be apart. No matter what the situation will be, the kind of relationship that is built really depends on the couple and how they have understood each other. Sometimes being together all the time does not guarantee and 100% happy marriage. Often, couples tend to see a lot of their differences which usually lead to conflict. But who says marriage is all a happy ending? No one can tell. Really! So it is up to the two people in love to give and take in order to be successful in marriage. There will always be misunderstanding from time to time but what is important is forgiveness. This I pray for me and my husband and of course to all married couple and couples…
